WP07000
Workpackage WP07000 and its subworkpackages sWP07100, sWP07200, sWP07300, sWP07400, are responsible for the instruments.
With WP07000 and its subworkpackages, the instruments will be designed with the performances required in the Specification System Document (derived from SRD). There are three types of instruments, each of them with several wavelength channels: broad-band imager, narrow-band imager and grating spectrograph, the last two with polarimetric capabilities.
WP07000, led by IAC, coordinates the development of instruments design in compliance with general project methodology, providing feedback to the project system engineering WP03000 and managing WP01000. It contributes to the system specification defining technical requirements derived from the SRD (WP02000), to the definition of interfaces between instruments and other telescope subsystems such as transfer optics (sWP04300), polarization optics (sWP04400), telescope optomechanics (WP05000)..., to the definition of interfaces among different instruments (sWP07100, sWP07200, sWP07300), to the definition of interfaces between instruments and detectors (sWP07400), between instruments and the data control (sWP10100 and sWP10300), and to the general project plan and financial budget (instruments part).
The different subworkpackages provide periodically information to WP07000 and collaborate directly with sWP07400 in the definition of the requirements of the detectors. Their main tasks are to:
- define the alternatives of their instruments in phase I of the conceptual design study,
- lead the trade-off analysis of design alternatives in phase II,
- specify the design and lead the analysis corresponding for the selected solution in phase III.
- sWP07100, led by INAF, is in charge of the design for a broad-band imager that can obtain diffraction-limited images over the full telescope field of view in multiple wavelengths at a high frame rate, with phase diversity and/or speckle image capabilities.
- sWP07200, led by KIS, provides the design of the tunable filter spectropolarimeters (named also narrow band imager) optics and optomechanics, with polarimetric capabilities. Other sWP07200 participants are IAC, INAF, MPG, RSAS and AISAS.
- sWP07300, led by IAC, is responsible for the design of grating spectrograph (with polarimetric capabilities) optics and optomechanics. There are three main possible concepts: standard long-slit spectrograph (of proven principle, but it does not give simultaneously two-dimensional spatial information), modified MSDP which measures simultaneous spectral information over a two-dimensional field of view but with a spectral resolution to be improved and integral field (v.g fiber-fed) spectrograph. Other sWP07300 participants are THEMIS, MPG, RSAS and OBSPAR.
- sWP07400, led by IAC, is in charge of the detectors choice and the detector controller requirements for EST instrumentation. Its objectives are a)to make a detector market survey and identify existing detector technology & development trends, b)to identify the performances of detectors presently used at solar telescopes, c)to identify the need of EST instruments, to identify the detector controller requirements for a possible standardization, d)to study a large-format low noise fast CCD alternatives adequate for accurate spectropolarimetry. Other sWP07400 participants are UToV, INAF, QUB, UCL-MSSL and AND.
