SPIE Astronomical Telescopes + Instrumentation 2022

Engineers and scientists of the EST team and the SOLARNET project participated in the SPIE Astronomical Telescopes + Instrumentation 2022. The event took place in Montréal (Canada) between July 17-22, 2022

The EST and SOLARNET delegation gave five talks and presented ten posters in the conference program. The contributions summarized the advances made towards the preliminary design of various subsystems of EST, as well as key results of the SOLARNET WP5 and WP8 dealing with high-precision absolute polarization measurements and real-time inversions of solar spectropolarimetric measurements based on Milne-Eddington atmospheres using parallel computing and GPU computing.

IDOM, SENER and TNO, the companies awarded the industrial contracts for the preliminary design of the telescope structure, pier and enclosure, the M1 assembly, and the secondary adaptive mirror, attended the conference too and presented the main results of their design work. A highlight in the IDOM booth was a 1:35 scale model of EST showing the new concept for the telescope structure and dome.
