Quiet Sun magnetic fields (2/2)
Swedish 1-m Solar Telescope
This movie shows the evolution of quiet Sun fields over the course of three hours. As can be seen, they continually move in response to the varying granulation flow field, change shape, and interact with nearby magnetic fields. Also, there are many instances of flux appearance and disappearance. All those processes are believed to tangle the photospheric magnetic field, producing perturbations that propagate upward into the chromosphere and above. There, they could trigger magnetic reconnection events and heat the plasma locally.
