Solarnet-S3 ‘Sun in Science and Society’

 

The M9-Museo del '900 in Mestre, Venice, hosted the international conference Solarnet-S3 ‘Sun in Science and Society’ from September 11th to 15th, 2023. The aim of the congress was to create and strengthen bonds among heliophysicists, scientists, engineers, stakeholders, and economists.

The European Solar Telescope (EST) was the focal point of numerous discussions over the course of the 5-day event. Topics such the EST's instruments, preliminary and optical design, as well as its current status and future perspectives and its communication activities, were among the subjects explored. In addition, EST documentary 'Reaching for the Sun' was screened on 12 September at an event open to the public called "Un Sole, Nessun Sole, Centomila Soli". The science and technology of the European Solar Telescope was also discussed during the afternoon.

 

 

The congress, sponsored by the Regione del Veneto and the Camera di Commercio di Venezia Rovigo, with INAF and Grupo EIE Srl as gold sponsors and ADS International and the European Solar Physics Division, is organised by the Università degli Studi di Roma "Tor Vergata" and the Università di Catania under the SOLARNET H2020 project. This project has received funding from the European Union's Horizon 2020 research and innovation program under grant agreement No. 824135.
